Eclipses

Lunar and solar eclipses are moments of particular relevance in cosmic witchcraft. They occur when the moon, the sun, and the Earth are perfectly aligned, and which one occurs depends on the order of the celestial bodies.

If the alignment is sun – Earth – moon, then the Earth will block the light of the sun. This causes a lunar eclipse: The moon won’t be able to reflect the light of the sun, being obscured by the shadow of the Earth. The moon still can reflect a bit of the light reflected by the Earth, creating a reddish color. Because of this, these are commonly called Red Moons.

If the alignment is sun – moon – Earth, then the moon will block the light of the sun and the sun will project its shadow over the Earth. This causes a solar eclipse. Because the shadow of the moon is smaller and shorter, solar eclipses are visible to a smaller portion of the Earth. When looking at a solar eclipse, it is always necessary to wear protective eyewear.

Eclipses are said to support the energy of the contrary celestial body: This means that a lunar eclipse enhances the sun energy during the night and a solar eclipse enhances the moon energy during the day. They are also great occasions to cast rituals to reveal what is occult. Due to the nature of the alignments and the shadows, eclipses aren’t seen equally from every point of the globe, but their energy can still be felt.
